Description: Trap/pot gear requirements in the Northeast are described in the NOAA Fisheries <a href="https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/new-england-mid-atlantic/marine-mammal-protection/atlantic-large-whale-take-reduction-plan" target="_blank"> Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Plan (ALWTRP)</a> and vary by geographic area. The Plan currently recognizes ten trap/pot areas along the entire Atlantic coast: Massachusetts Restricted Area, Great South Channel Restricted Area, Stellwagen Bank/Jefreys Ledge Restricted Area, Northern Inshore State Trap/Pot Waters, Northern Nearshore Trap/Pot Waters, Southern Nearshore Trap/Pot Waters, Ofshore Trap/Pot Waters, Southeast Restricted Area North, Jordan Basin Gear Marking Area, and Jefreys Ledge Gear Marking Area. Each area may have different gear requirements, marking requirements, and/or time of year restrictions.
